Click here Registration is now open for the Virtual Research and Evaluation Conference on Self-Sufficiency (RECS) 2022, convened by the Office of Planning, Research, and Evaluation in the Administration for Children and Families. RECS will take place virtually June 1-3, 2022, from 1:00-5:00 pm ET. Registration for the conference is free and open to the public. Virtual RECS 2022 will provide an opportunity to hear the latest findings from evaluations of social welfare programs and
policies, discuss ways to incorporate findings into the design and implementation of programs, and develop strategies for future evaluations. The conference will focus on programs, policies, and services that support families on the path to economic self-sufficiency and well-being.
A dynamic virtual platform will host plenaries, breakout sessions, and more. The registration process includes the option to create an attendee profile within the virtual venue. This is a completely optional opportunity to connect with other Virtual RECS 2022 attendees by sharing more information about yourself and learning more about others in attendance. Attendees will receive a confirmation email immediately upon registering and a second email with instructions to access the virtual platform when it opens in late May. RECS 2022 speakers do not need to register for the conference and will be provided instructions to access their virtual platform accounts in the last week of May. OPRE News Exploring Career Paths in IT for Unemployed and Working Adults Earning Low Wages The WorkAdvance model provides career readiness and occupational skills training, job placement, and retention and advancement services to unemployed and working adults earning low wages. This report focuses on the WorkAdvance program implemented by Per Scholas in the Bronx, New York. Per Scholas’s WorkAdvance program was designed to prepare participants for entry-level information technology (IT) jobs, including help desk technicians and IT field technician positions, helping them enter and advance in this career field. The paper explores potential advancement opportunities within the IT sector and describes the career advancement of program participants. This brief from the Evaluation of Employment Coaching for TANF and Related Populations project discusses the use of video recordings of interactions between program staff and participants as a data source. It describes the process for video recording coaching sessions, the analysis of data, and examples of what was learned, concluding with lessons learned for researchers considering using video recordings as a data source in future studies. This brief presents insights from in-depth, in-person interviews with participants in career pathways programs funded by HPOG 2.0. It explores why and how participants chose the healthcare field and their specific healthcare occupation, and thereby adds to our understanding of participant experiences in career pathways programs. Understanding the Findings of the Pathways to Work Evidence Clearinghouse This new report from the Pathways to Work Evidence Clearinghouse summarizes key findings from rigorous research on interventions designed to help people with low incomes succeed in the labor market.
