OPRE News Early Findings and Lessons Learned from the HPOG UP 2.0 Research Grants This report summarizes lessons learned and early findings from the Health Profession Opportunity Grants Program University Partnership (HPOG UP) 2.0 research grants. These studies, conducted by university researchers partnering with one or more HPOG programs, aim to answer specific questions about how to improve HPOG services within local contexts. Three-Year Impact Findings from the Valley Initiative for Development and Advancement Program (VIDA) The Valley Initiative for Development and Advancement program (VIDA) in the Lower Rio Grande Valley, Texas, provides substantial financial and personal supports to students with low incomes so they can complete college-level occupational programs that prepare them for well-paying jobs in demand in the region. This report documents whether the program was successful in increasing access to and completion of college-level occupational training for adults with low skills and whether the program’s efforts led to impacts on credentials, earnings, and other life outcomes. Three-Year Impact Findings from an Integrated Basic Education and Skills Training Program in Washington State Washington State’s Integrated Basic Education and Skills Training (I-BEST) program aimed to teach students basic and occupational skills concurrently so they could move more quickly into higher-paying jobs or college-level courses. This report documents whether the program as implemented at three colleges was successful in increasing access to and completion of college-level occupational training for adults with low skills and whether the program’s efforts led to impacts on credentials, earnings, and other life outcomes. APHSA & NAWRS 2021 Conference InformationThe 2021 Economic Mobility & Well-Being Conference will be held as a hybrid conference August 22-25, 2021 at the Hyatt Regency Milwaukee, which is in the center of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Hosted by the American Public Human Services Association (APHSA) and three of its affinity groups, in partnership with the National Association for Welfare Research and Statistics (NAWRS), the conference will provide a combined experience of in-person and virtual learning to bring together those committed to providing and improving human services programs.
